BEVERLY HILLS, California — Judging by the photos that leaked Tuesday night, a lot of people enjoy dreaming that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's onscreen romance also extends offscreen. But no matter what the truth is, this much is fact: Rob and Kristen are happy to have the other at their side as they ride the "Twilight Saga" wave.

"He's thoughtful," Stewart explained recently when we asked the actress to name the quality in RPattz that means the most to her. "I don't want to be specific. It's funny to talk about your friends in [these terms], because this is now going to be the one thing that's my favorite thing about Rob. It's going to be the thing."

Way back in March 2008, when MTV visited the "Twilight" set, two things were obvious: Kristen and Rob were going to set the big screen on fire, and the duo were growing close. Onscreen, Edward and Bella are romantic, honest and protective of one another; offscreen, Rob and Kristen have a funny, self-deprecating dynamic that has helped them grapple with all the insanity of the saga's explosion.

"It's strange, because she's changed over the movies I've done with her," Rob said of his leading lady. "I think from the first one, I was so quiet [and] very determined to do something on the first movie. I wanted to look very serious, and it made her, I guess, a little bit more reticent about how to deal with me."

'Twilight' star isn't eager to lend his likeness to an advertising campaign anytime soon. Kevin Spacey voices Honda commercials. Brad Pitt has been known to recommend a frosty Heineken or two. Jennifer Aniston would love to sell you some shampoo, Halle Berry would like to share some makeup tips, and Beyoncé hopes you pay for it all with your American Express card.

Long gone, it seems, are the days when artists sought to preserve their integrity by staying away from commercial endorsements. Which seems to leave one glaringly obvious question in the minds of "Twilight" fans worldwide: When is Robert Pattinson going to try and sell us something?

Without a doubt, the last 12 months have seen RPattz soar to a celebrity stature as huge — if not bigger — than any of the above-listed superstars. So, when we caught up with the 23-year-old British leading man recently to discuss his eagerly anticipated "New Moon" return, we had to ask: Has Rob been approached yet to do any endorsements?

"Um," he grinned, thinking carefully about his answer. "Yeah."

But even though he admitted he's been asked, Rob has made a point of not saying "yes" to anyone — no matter how much money might be involved. "You know ... it's kind of ...," he struggled. "I think it's a little early to start selling out."

Rob, who takes himself very seriously as an actor, has resisted any attempts to have him officially endorse a project. Nevertheless, the world of "Twilight" itself has plastered his face all over everything from lunchboxes to T-shirts to Barbie dolls. "New Moon" has visible tie-ins with Virgin America, Burger King, Nordstrom, Volvo and other corporate sponsors, and even his co-stars like Christian Serratos have used their newfound star-power to attract attention.

According to Rob, however, he plans to remain pure. And any product placement fans see from him is purely accidental.

"I kind of unintentionally endorse Coca-Cola," laughed the soda-loving superstar, who drinks the syrupy stuff so often that he's even inspired fans to make tongue-in-cheek YouTube videos. "I drink it ... I'm drinking it all the time, constantly. I [guess] I endorse a lot of products, but without getting paid for it."

'It's been a real pleasure working with him,' Robert Pattinson says of Weitz. Robert Pattinson would like to see Gus Van Sant handed the keys to the "Twilight" franchise for "Breaking Dawn," the yet-unannounced adaptation of the final book in Stephenie Meyer's vampire series. Co-star Jamie Campbell Bower favors the talents of Tim Burton for the gig.

"New Moon" director Chris Weitz has also hinted he might plop back into the director's chair for "Breaking Dawn," and while all this talk is pure speculation at this point, we do know that the "New Moon" cast remains wildly supportive of Weitz.

"I really, really like Chris," Pattinson said in an interview provided by "Twilight" studio Summit Entertainment. "He's very calm and he's very, very focused. You never feel pressure, but the ball's always rolling. Nothing ever feels held up. It's been a real pleasure working with him."

"Chris is amazing," Taylor Lautner seconded. "Flawless. He's so relaxed, and he really cares about our opinions, and he truly cares about this project. He cares about the books, he cares about the series. So I think the fans are going to be very excited and happy with the outcome Chris brings, because I know the whole cast is excited to be working with him."

It turns out that a large percentage of the "Twilight" community wants Weitz to return for "Breaking Dawn" too (even though the film isn't out yet): More than half of fans voted for the director in an October poll on Fandango.com.

When he spoke with MTV New recently, Weitz was no closer to knowing if Summit would give him the job, but he was awful thankful for the fan love. "Those are Obama-like numbers!" he laughed. "I'd say to them thank you very much, but wait until you see the movie. They're just going on the trailers. And, of course, no one has seen David Slade's 'Eclipse,' so they can't judge fairly based on that. I'm the flavor of the month."
